STATEMENT FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BRITISH BALLET ORGANIZATION
I am delighted to be able to announce some significant news which will enable the BBO to develop, secure its future and enhance the support and service provided to its members and the dance profession.
Woolborough House has been a wonderful and much loved home for the organisation and my family; however it has been clear for some considerable time that the BBO has outgrown the building and that it is no longer fit for purpose. After a lengthy and complex process involving the advice of a great number of highly respected professionals and property consultants the sale of Woolborough House has been agreed and will be completed early in 2014.
I am convinced that this creates a wonderful opportunity for the British Ballet Organization. This, however, has only become possible with the support of the Espinosa Memorial Fund (EMF), and will allow the BBO to retain a freehold headquarters in central London as a long term safeguard for future generations.Their support allows us to fully utilise the legacy of Edouard Espinosa and the family, who founded the organisation over 80 years ago.
For over two years the BBO Board and the Chief Executive Officer have been working with the EMF and the Trustees of Woolborough House to formulate a development strategy, which reflects the charitable objectives of the organisation and the values that have underpinned the BBO throughout its history. During this process the Trustees have documented a "Vision" for the future and have identified some exciting opportunities that will ensure BBO retains and enhances its position as a major teaching and training organisation both regionally and internationally. These opportunities would not be possible without the considerable support of the EMF, and the release of capital from the sale of the property.
Finally, I fully appreciate that everyone and particularly our members will want to be kept informed and I will ensure that future developments are communicated to you.
"Having been closely associated with the BBO for many years, I am continually impressed with the quality of its work and greatly
admire the principles upon which it is based. I look forward to being involved in shaping the future of this inspiring organisation which
plays such a pivotal role in the dance world, both in the UK and internationally."
