Teachers Events
As part of the BBO's policy of promoting continuing professional development, teachers are invited to attend Student courses to observe students in classes and workshops taught by a distinguished faculty. We also offer both a National and Regional programme of provision managed by BBO Headquarters. Our courses provide excellent professional development opportunities for dance teachers. Examples include:
- Safe Dance Practice seminars and workshops including Certificate in Safe and Effective Dance Practice (Trinity College London)
- Appointed Persons First Aid Certificate for Dance Teachers — a one day course specialising in Sports & Exercise
- Classical Ballet seminars — Teaching Male Students... Pirouettes... Allegro...
- Theatre Dance workshops — 'Fosse', 'West Side Story', 'Cats', Lindy Hop, Urban Dance...
The British Ballet Organization believes that continuous professional development for all its teachers is essential in sustaining and improving the standard of teaching. Teachers are actively encouraged to extend and improve their skills as part of a life-long learning process and to comply with Quality Assurance procedures. It is essential that teachers remain conversant with current dance practice including syllabus development, health and safety issues, child development and legislative changes.
For further information, please see our 2009/2010 Professional Development programme — open to all dance teachers.
